Join The Resistance – Protect The Earth

The music in the video is based on the World War II (1939-1945) Italian resistance anthem ‘Bella Ciao’ sung by the ‘partigiani’ who fought to free Italy from the Fascist and Nazi forces. The lyrics have been changed to reflect another fight, the fight to save the Earth. We are in the middle of a mass extinction of life on Earth. All the planetary ecosystems, that keep us alive, are compromised. Like the partigiani we are fighting for our home, the Earth, our lives and the future of our families.

Song for the Earth – Do It Now

“We need to wake up
We need to wise up
We need to open our eyes
And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now

We’re on a planet
That has a problem
We’ve got to solve it, get involved
And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now

Make it greener
Make it cleaner
Make it last, make it fast
And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now

No point in waiting
Or hesitating
We must get wise, take no more lies
And do it now now now
We need to build a better future
And we need to start right now”

It is important to understand that this is not just a climate problem. It is far more than that and is a direct threat to our existence. Industrial scale deforestation and overfishing, massive air, land and ocean pollution, biodiversity loss, global warming and the acidification of the oceans caused by the carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels, airborne electricity in the form of electromagnetic radiation used by wireless technology, destruction of wild habitats, hunting and the extermination of wildlife, marine and land animals, wars and economic growth based on overexploitation of the Earth’s resources are causing the collapse of the planetary ecosystems that support all life on Earth.

We are in the middle of the sixth mass extinction of life on Earth caused entirely by humans. We are not biologically equipped to survive a mass extinction event. The last one (the fifth) was 66 million years ago, caused when a meteor hit the Earth at the area today known as the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. The fifth mass extinction wiped out the dinosaurs and 76% of life on Earth.

In the words of Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary General at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP25) in Madrid in December 2019, “by the end of the coming decade we will be on one of two paths. One is the path of surrender, where we have sleepwalked past the point of no return, jeopardizing the health and safety of everyone on this planet,” or a “path of hope. A path of resolve, of sustainable solutions. A path where more fossil fuels remain where they should be – in the ground – and where we are on the way to carbon neutrality by 2050.”
