Florence, Italy, will apply precaution regarding 5G roll-out. The local council decided that “for the installations of the 5G technology before issuing individual authorizations in view of the application of the Precautionary Principle and public health”, “carefully evaluating any authorization for 5G installations in the territory of the municipality of Florence”. Radiation concerns halt Brussels 5G development, for now. Plans for a pilot project to provide high-speed 5G wireless internet in Brussels have been halted due to fears for the health of citizens, according to reports. In July, the government concluded an agreement with three telecom operators to relax the strict radiation standards in Brussels. But according to the Region, it is now impossible to estimate the radiation from the antennas required for the service. Read more about this

US Senate hearing: No studies show 5G is safe. During a Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee hearing on the future of 5G wireless technology and their impact on the American people and economy, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) raised concerns with the lack of any scientific research and data on the technology’s potential health risks. 5G and systems using frequencies above 10 GHz may cause tissue heating and permanent tissue damage at intensities tolerated by ICNIRP: “Even though the time- and area-averaged power density values remain within the acceptable safety limits for continuous exposure, these bursts may lead to short temperature spikes in the skin of exposed people…The results also show that the peak-to-average ratio of 1,000 tolerated by the International Council on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection guidelines may lead to permanent tissue damage after even short exposures, highlighting the importance of revisiting existing exposure guidelines.”. Bay Area City, California, USA, halts 5G development over health concerns: The health concerns about 5G are exacerbated because the service will require more small cells placed throughout cities, closer to residents than have been necessary for other wireless technologies. Read more about this

According to Ericsson, one major industry player in the 5G technology, 5G base stations will significantly increase microwave or radiofrequency radiation making it “impossible” or a “major problem” to roll out the technology in countries with better protection against radiation hazards (i.e. Switzerland, Italy, Russia etc.) than the obsolete limits recommended by ICNIRP. According to Dr Lennart Hardell: “No doubt this presentation by Ericsson show that 5G will increase exposure, proper scientific evaluation has not been done and re-enforces the need for a moratorium as demanded in the 5G Appeal.” Read more about this
